Students to benefit from NCUK, study for best UK degrees
Lahore: Pakistani students will be able to study for some of the best UK degrees without travelling abroad and could undertake one, two or three years of undergraduate studies in their country and then transfer to the UK at whatever point they felt comfortable, Geoff Evans, project director for Pakistan Operations of the Northern Consortium of the United Kingdom (NCUK), said on Monday.
NCUK, a consortium of 11 government universities operating in 10 countries, will start its services for students in the country from September 2010. Spread across the North of the UK, NCUK universities include the prestigious universities of Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield.
It also includes those that specialise in providing employment ready graduates like the Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Huddersfield. Geoff said the model for NCUK had until recently been a simple one in which international education institutions were licensed to deliver partial degree programmes from which students were guaranteed access to one of the 11 owner universities in the UK.
